I received a recorded message from 973-841-2942 saying they are the IRS and that a warrant for me has been released through the IRS and to call back at the same number. I am self-employed since 2005 and have always done my taxes through Turbo Tax so I freaked out! I went ahead and called back. The lady that asnwered spoke in broken English and asked if I was calling in regards to the case related to my cell number that I was calling from which she repeated back to me. She said, just to verify, can you give me your address. I gave a bogus address and she said that is not one we have on file. She gave an address she had "on file" for me and it was from a state I used to live in for 6 months back in 2010. Then, she tried giving me another address I haven"t lived at since 2011. I never gave her my actual address (and she never asked for it).. She went on to say that she must read a msseage required by the Federal Government that is being recorded and to please not interupt until she was finished. Of course it was her going on saying I defrauded on my taxes, I have a warrant out for my arrest and they would be freezing all my assests and then finally she asked me did I intentionally do it. I said no, of course not. She asked if I filed myself and I said I did. She told me they reviewed my file from 2012 to 2016 and that I owed almost ,000.00. Then she said in order to keep things out of court I would need to make a payment of comments,000.00 as of right then. Of course I said I did not have the money. She then says she is going to transfer me to her supervisor. I speak to him and he asks how much I could come up with today and I said certainly not comments,000. (At this time I am still freaking out!). I told him maybe I could get some of it today. He was very intimidating and said are you sure you can only get part of it, remember, we can check your bank accounts and know that your are lying. I said I am not lying and he said he could stay after hours if I could get it and call him back at that same number. So, I call back and say I cannot get it until omorrow because my bank will be closed by the time I would have the money. He said, well can"t you get it in cash? If you can I can tell you where to go to wire the funds and I told him no, it would have to be tomorrow. He then said fine, let me give you a direct line for you to call me first thing tomorrow morning. He gave me the number 360-447-8161.. By this time, I was able to get in front of my computer to look up this 973-841-2942 number and found out it was a scam. Then I looked up the 360-447-8161 number to find it had been reported as IRS scam. They did a pretty good job of making it sound legit and I am so scared for those people out there that do not think to double check the legitimacy of the people contacting them. Of course the IRS doesn"t seem to have a phone line that you can call to report it so those who do not have access to the computer have to handwrite notes in to them. Please warn everyone you know, awful people!

01/19/2018 - Fictitious automated IRS message informing me of an alleged warrant having been issued in my name calling for my arrest! No name was mentioned, no department number or name was left, only an automated message to return a call to the same bogus number of 973-841-2942, and when I tried calling the number to get some more definitive information to report to the DNC registry and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act my call couldn"t be completed as dialed...complete and utter SCAM!!! Avoid any and all attempts to engage you in returning their call or even answering their call to begin with!!
