Phone rang, caller ID said New Jersey.

I answered and an Indian woman said "Hello, I am calling about your personal computer, can I speak to the person responsible for it?" I said, "I have more than one, which computer are you calling about?" She asked, "Is this a business?" I said, "No, I"m a computer professional, I just own several computers, what is this call about?" She said, "Let me hand you over to my technical support staff." Then an Indian man said, "Hello, I am representing the Microsoft Operating System ..." I cut him off and said, "No you aren"t!" He said, "Have a nice day." and hung up the phone. He obviously wasn"t representing Microsoft or any legitimate business.

An attempt at Social Engineering at it"s most idiotic. I"m sure they wanted me to install some malware that would either steal my personal info and passwords or it would cause problems on my machines until I paid them for some other software to fix the first one, etc. etc. etc. Don"t ever let someone call you unsolicited and then talk you into doing something on your computer because they mention the company Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Symantec or other companies like that. Those companies don"t call consumers out of the blue and offer technical assistance!

They called my wife this morning posing as a local police and almost fooled her to believe that she has an outstanding warrant against her due to a I94 violation, they wanted her to go to a local store immediately and purchase bail bonds. Thanks for technology she was chatting with me at the same time and I told her that it is a scam.

An Indian accented man called me and said I was broadcasting a Windows virus. I have 5 computers and he could not tell me which computer. He tried to get me to enter CMDs but I googled them instead and found out it was a scam. So I played stupid and held him on the phone for 1.5 hours.

This number sent me a group text with one other number and me. I did not recognize the other number either, which was (347) 816-0388. The text sent a link for supposed free products from Amazon. The text read, “See worthy find, Rebecca It seems like something youd appreciate bopbiq.co,:;EE0bWqw.” It also had a picture that said, “Free Stuff,” next to a shopping bag with “Amazon” written on it.
I blocked my number and tried to call both numbers. This number the text came from (323) 775-7100, went straight to a message that said, “This number has not setup their voicemail,” and hung up. When I called the other number that was part of the group (347) 816-0388, a lady answered and said hello, but I just hung up. I blocked both numbers and did not click on the link.
